2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee has power but wont start I have had a similar issue with my wife's Jeep. It turns over and over but will not fire. This is the 5.7L V8 Hemi. After a bit of time it will start but a week ago it would not so I brought it to my mechanic. He did a full diagnostic on it and it gave him codes for the ECU.
4798 posts 路 Joined 2018. #6 路 May 28, 2018 (Edited) The P0128 codes means the engine isn't warming up fast enough. Its for emissions, because a cold engine makes more pollution than a fully warmed up engine. Sure, logically an engine not warming up fast enough could be a thermostat.
I changed the valve body, and the errors still came up --- then knew it was the pcm. Changed the pcm, and no more problems. If it is the pcm, you can get one as a plug n play (already coded) from 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee PCM ECM ECU Engine Computer for less than $200. 15 posts 路 Joined 2012. #5 路 Aug 9, 2015. A '05 WK 5.7 with 70,000+ miles is quite a find. My 2010 had a similar problem until I installed an oil catch can, cost $98 bucks. Under heavy acceleration, the hemi sucks oil and the stock emission system forces it into engine through the throttle body.
